And in summer, when the surrounding mountains change their clothes from white to green, and the best time comes for swimming and beach holidays.

How to get to Königssee


The most convenient way to get to Königssee is from Munich, whose international airport receives direct flights from Russia. You can either rent a car there and take the A8 road and onward, leaving on highway 160, in 1.5 hours you can get to the lake (distance is about 160 km). Or get to the Munich main station and with a transfer at the Freilassing station in the direction of Berchtesgaden (Berchtesgaden Hbf) arrive at Königssee in 3 hours. The ticket price will be from 35 EUR.

The second option is especially convenient in winter - through Salzburg, whose airport receives many charters with skiers in the winter months. From it to Königssee - 20 km by bus number 840, transfer in Berchtesgaden to bus number 841, in total the whole journey will be about 30 minutes.

Resorts of Königssee


The main resort center of the lake is the city of Berchtesgaden, where life is in full swing at any time of the year. It resembles an open-air museum - there are many old gingerbread houses and majestic churches. Medieval squares are interconnected by a network of narrow streets with cozy restaurants and coffee shops. The city has clubs and casinos, souvenir shops and jewelry stores. Berchtesgaden is especially good around Christmas - the town is bursting with snow and the lights of garlands, and the inhabitants arrange a grandiose festive festival.

Another well-known resort located on the shores of the lake is Schönau am Königssee. This town is famous as the most environmentally friendly resort in Germany, and rest here will be calm and measured. Schönau is located in a picturesque alpine valley among green meadows. Surrounded on all sides by beautiful mountains, it is famous for its comfortable climate - there are never strong winds and serious pressure drops. The town has many cozy restaurants, hospitable hotels and apartments.
