That is why over the Devil's Bridge, or Rakotzbrücke, it is not allowed to walk. Since, as the experts affirm, this bridge was not raised to unite worlds and lives, but with a purely aesthetic intention.

A perfect circumference

The bridge dates from 1860, when a gentleman from the local city had this fragile and curious bridge erected. To build it, local stones of a varied nature were used, but with the peculiarity that we had: with the reflection of the water, it creates a perfect, harmonious, and extremely complicated circumference for the rough way it is built.

All this adorned, at their respective ends, by striking rock spiers that provide a very special decorative touch that imitate two basalt columns, but in the natural way.

The bridge is as curious as the park in which it sits, the Rhododendron Nature Park, one of the largest in Saxony and the habitat of beautiful and rare plant species. This botanical paradise has one of the most appreciated water lily ponds in the world.

The devil's bridge. Why?

It is known as Devil's Bridge, due to the colloquialism that such bridges, which create such perfect figures, are dangerous and miraculous. So much so that they must have been built by Satan himself.

And it is that although we know that it was built by human hands, it is not the only bridge that receives the name of 'Devil's Bridge'. Throughout history and time, there are many constructions and old bridges that, due to their difficult creation or their doubtful stability, have received a name that has the devil as the protagonist.
