Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
is located in the Wulinyuan Mountains. In 1982, the mountainous region was recognized as the National Park of China, and 10 years later it was added to the UNESCO list. The pillars of sandstone and quartz reach 1,080 meters in height, this is the highest part of Wulinyuan. The area of ​​the park is 479.15 km².

The most suitable time to visit the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is September-October. During this period, the weather is comfortable for long walks. From April to June there is a lot of rainfall, and the paths in the park are slippery, so the walk is unsafe. It can snow from December to February, the average temperature is around zero degrees. It is cold in the mountains at this time, there may be ice on the roads and forest trails, so access to Zhangjiajie is limited. In general, in the winter season, the park is beautiful in its own way, and prices are lower. The peak tourist season is in April-October.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park has three main entrances where tickets can be purchased for four days. The ticket includes sightseeing in the park and the use of buses.

Entrance No. 1 - Southwest gate at the Golden Knut brook (road from Zhangjiajie to Suosiyu). If you are coming from Zhangjiajie Station, then most likely you will be brought to this entrance.

Entrance No. 2 - Wulingyuan Gate, entrance to the Bailong Elevator and Tianji Funicular. It is convenient to get here if you are staying at one of the hotels in Wulingyuan.

Entrance No. 3 - Tianji Mountain, North Gate. It is rarely used by travelers, since from here you have to walk for a long time to the funiculars or climb to the top on foot.

To make it easier to navigate in Zhangjiajie Park, you need to get a route map. It is better for bus drivers to show the map in Chinese so that they can drop you off at the desired stop. On the first day of your visit to Zhangjiajie National Park, it is best to pay attention to the Huangshichzhai and Golden Whip. On the second day, see Yuanjiajie and Tianji Mountain. On the third day, you can go to the Yellow Dragon Cave, ride on Baofeng Lake or climb Yangjiajie.

What to see in the park

Huangshichzhai mountains and stone village. There are several viewing platforms here, from where mesmerizing views of the mountainous area open up. In this part of Zhangjiajie, you can travel along a large circular route with a length of 4.5 km and a small one - 1 km. The recommended time for a visit is 2.5 hours.

Stream Golden Whip. The trail along the Golden Whip stream runs along the bottom of the gorge without steep ascents and descents. It is calm and quiet here, you can enjoy the solitude and beauty of nature, birdsong. The entire route is 7.5 km and takes about 3 hours. During the walk, you can meet rickshaws who will take you to the end of the stream (or the beginning, depending on where you started your journey) for about 300 yuan.

Yuanjiajie Park. It can be reached by elevator for RMB 72 or by walking 3,000 steps in the middle of the Golden Whip route. On the territory of Yuanjiajie there is a famous mountain Avatar Hallelujah, filmed in the movie "Avatar".

Yangjiajie. Located in the northwest of Wulingyuan. The walk takes place among rocks, waterfalls, streams and ravines. You can find monkeys, macaques and white cranes. It can be reached in 10 minutes by free bus after visiting Yuanjiajie or by cable car for 79 RMB.

Cave of the Yellow Dragon. It is easy to get to it by city bus from Zhangjiajie village or by taxi. This cave is one of the largest karst caves in China.

Tianmen Mountain. Its height is 1519 meters. If there is no fog and the weather is sunny, then you can see 2000 mountain peaks from here. The longest cable car in the world leads up the mountain. The website for ordering tickets is tianmenshan.com.cn .

Glass Bridge. The Glass Sky Walk is on Tianmen mountain and stretches 60 meters across the chasm.

Lake Baofeng. The ticket to the lake includes a half-hour trip on the excursion boat.

Gallery 10 miles. The mini-train will take you through a scenic area 5 km long. During the journey, views of Lady's Three Peaks, Old Man's Peak, Monkey Slope, etc.

How to get there

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is located 30 kilometers from the city. The best way to get here is by taxi (about 200 RMB) or the city bus that departs from Zhangjiajie Bus Station. Buses from Zhangjiajie to Wulingyuan run frequently, as they fill up with passengers. You do not need to buy tickets at the box office, the fare is paid on the bus itself. The ticket costs 20 RMB. The road from the city will take about an hour.

If you are getting from the airport, you first need to take bus number 4, which will take you to the Zhangjiajie bus station, and then change to the desired bus to the park.

From the train station to the bus station go 150 meters.
