Rich's, Macy's, and Sears served as the mall's first anchor stores when it first opened in late February 1986. The mall and Gwinnett Place Mall were nearly identical. The Macy's store was the first in Atlanta that wasn't initially a part of the Davison's network, which had its headquarters in Atlanta and later changed its name to Macy's. The fourth anchor, Mervyn's, as well as another at Gwinnett Place Mall joined the state's largest mall when it opened in 1986.
