Protected and preserved since 1935, its vast forests cover part of the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains, with views of both the Shenandoah Valley and the winding river below. Along the crest of the narrow park is the charming Skyline Drive, which stretches for 169 kilometers and boasts some phenomenal lookouts.

The picturesque park also has scenic trails for hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding; the most famous of these being the Appalachian Trail. With fantastic fishing, camping, and wildlife viewing, Shenandoah is one of the best national parks in the country.
