The Lake Pehoé is located in the intermountain basin in the Patagonian Andes. It is part of a system of similar lakes interconnected by the Payne River. Payne originates from Lake Dikson, fed by the glacier of the same name, and then its channel passes through Lake Payne and Nordenskiöld. Nordenskiöld is connected to Pehoé by a small section of the river, on which there is a 65 m high Salto Grande waterfall. Below Pehoé, the Paine River passes through Lake Toro, after which the river channel bears the name Serrano. Lake Pehoé also receives several unnamed streams flowing from the glaciers at the top of the Payne Range, as well as a short stream from the small Scottsburg Lake above.
