Big Sur Scenic Road in California, USA (with Map & Photos)

Big Sur is a beautiful one hundred miles (160 km) road along the Pacific coast in California, the west coast of the United States, needs no introduction. Everyone who has been to these places, of course, tells what breathtaking views from the car window were. Everyone here is riding in convertibles and enjoying the sun and the ocean. And actually there is nothing more to talk about. You have to go and see the beauty of the Pacific coast with your own eyes.

Just imagine - 160 km of beauty that will take your breath away! Mountains, hills, forests, cliffs, coves, birds and animals on the shore, waves are coming! All this divine landscape until recently was inaccessible to the human eye. The Spaniards watched him sailing on ships. And only in the 30s of the XX century, the Americans built their now famous highway number 1, bridges and connected Northern and Southern California.

How to get there

Like many of the Pacific Coast attractions, Big Sur is also located on Highway 1 from Los Angeles to San Francisco. From San Simeon to the city of Monterey lies this beautiful land that delights tourists so much.

If you go through Big Sur and stop at all the viewpoints, then a day will not be enough to see everything! There are numerous parks along the coast, which are also worth seeing. Of course, Big Sur is worth driving along these serpentine roads in both directions, and more than once. And it's better in different weather. We are fortunate to have been able to see this stretch of coastline in a changing environment.

But since we were in a hurry and were on a long hike with a tent, we did not have time to pay attention to all the sights of the road. Leaving San Luis Obispo in the morning, we managed to visit the ghostly Morro Rock, saw seals in San Simeon, enjoyed the view of the waterfall in McVay Bay in Julia Pfeiffer Burns Park, and then our path led us to Carmela and Monterey, where we drove the famous 17 mile road.

And if you only travel around California, then it is quite possible to spend the whole day on the coast. Or stop in parks with a tent and devote much more time to this site. Why not?
