Hoeke Windmill, Damme, Belgium (with Map & Photos)

The Hoeke Windmill was built in 1840 by order of the then-miller Van Holm. The revolving cap mill replaced the wooden pivot mill that had been destroyed during an autumn storm in 1836.

The Windmill has been protected since 1981 and was restored to working order in 1987.

The Hoeke Windmill is built on an artificial hill. It has a cap, an attic with a bag lift, an attic with millstones, and a ground floor.

The mill is owned by Flanders and is managed by Erfgoed Vlaanderen.

If you take the N49 / E34 highway, you will see the Hoeke Windmill a few kilometers before Knokke. It sits right next to the motorway and welcomes you to the Belgian coast.

On this square, there was already a wooden mill in 1481. But, reference was already made to a mill in the town of Hoeke (yes, once upon a time, Hoeke was a real town!) In 1324. This last one is presumed to be lost in a flood.
