There are almost no pilgrims-tourists from Southeast Asia in Bombo, and ordinary Australians are rarely there. But this place is known to professional landscape photographers far beyond the borders of Australia. Well, thank God that it was so - on the weekend, when there was nowhere to step on the "Hole", the beauty of Bombo Headland Quarry was admired by 7-8 people, at a distance of 200 meters from each other.

Modern Bombo is the fruit of the joint efforts of man and the ocean - the ocean, for its part, washed away and destroyed the basalt rocks, the man from the opposite side undermined these rocks, crushed them and used them in construction. The fact that basalt in this place was interspersed with sandstone, led to the fact that it collapsed forming 5-6 meter pillars, which made the landscape look like Martian, as science fiction artists imagine it.

The ocean has been doing its job for thousands of years, and man has done everything in 60 years, starting his part of the project in the 1880s, finishing it in 1940, when the railways, which were mainly built with basalt, were built in this area, and far to carry basalt did not make economic sense.

The Bombo Headland Quarry Geological Site was owned by the Metropolitan Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage Authority, which in 1970 built a wastewater treatment and treatment plant at the bottom of the mine, although it had many opponents. But the wastewater treatment plant remained. True, it is so disguised at the bottom that until you hit the factory wall, it cannot be seen from anywhere and it does not spoil the landscapes. But it spoils the air. True, not always - I was lucky, I got there when the wind, apparently, was blowing in the right direction, and I told all my friends what scientific and technical heights the purification technology had reached: there is all sorts of rubbish, but there is no smell. But once I hit the wind from the other side... Once out of four or five.

But, despite this unpleasant and really rare circumstance, I recommend to everyone who is with me on this side of the equator to visit Bombo Headland Quarry Geological Site. Even if you do not go down to the quarry, where it sometimes smells, amazing landscapes open up from the cliffs of the cape, where there is always fresh sea air.

And do not repeat the mistakes of some that stick on the pillars and remain there - the most beautiful views open from the path along the ridge of the hill on the northern part of the cape. I was surprised - there are cars in the parking lot, but there are no people in the most interesting places. Everyone wanders along the bottom of the quarry along the wall of the plant.

Bombo Headland Quarry Geological Site - There are two free parking lots on the cape, connected by a path along the railway: from one closer to go to the quarry, from the other to the ridge, from where you can see not only the Bombo cliffs, but also the ocean. From any stop, a couple of hours will be enough to go around the entire cape and take fantastic photos. Add an hour to a picnic in a beautiful place and you will be happy.
