The original temple was nearly lost when the Aswan High Dam was constructed in the 20th century, submerging its original location. Thanks to an ambitious UNESCO rescue project, the entire structure was carefully moved stone by stone to its current location on Agilkia Island.
Visitors can explore massive stone pylons, detailed hieroglyphic carvings, and peaceful courtyards surrounded by palm trees and Nile waters. The Temple of Isis remains the centerpiece, showcasing centuries-old art and architecture in remarkably preserved condition.
Philae Temple is especially magical at sunrise or during the evening sound and light show. A short boat ride from the mainland makes the journey feel like a step back into Egypt’s sacred past.
