Originally named Parkington Shopping Center, Ballston Quarter (previously Ballston Common Mall) was one of the first significant suburban shopping centers in the Washington, D.C. area.

It was the first shopping mall in the country to be constructed around a multi-story parking garage when it debuted in 1951. It is situated two blocks from the Ballston-MU station on the Orange and Silver lines of the Washington Metro at the junction of Glebe Road and Wilson Boulevard in the Ballston neighborhood in Arlington County, Virginia.
