The mall is located on the northwest corner of Bellaire Boulevard and Interstate 69/U.S. Route 59. After Meyerland Plaza and Gulfgate Mall opened in 1956 and 1957, respectively, this is Houston's third mall to be built, but it is the city's first to have complete air conditioning. A ten-story skyscraper in the vicinity is called the Jewelry Exchange Center. PlazAmericas, the mall's new name, gave it a Latin-American feel and made it more appealing to Hispanics. The key establishments are Burlington, SuperNova Furniture, America Cinemas, La Sorella, Gold Factory & Imports, and Clarewood Supermercado.

It was constructed in Section 12 of Sharpstown Industrial Park.
