University Mall | Shopping mall in Carbondale, Illinois

In Carbondale, Illinois, the University Mall is a shopping center. When it first opened in 1974, JCPenney and Sears served as its main anchor businesses, with Sears replacing Britt's bargain store that never went into operation. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the mall had several expansions, including Meis (sold to Elder-Beerman in 1989), Venture Stores, and Famous-Barr. Montgomery Ward took up the space where Sears had been and then moved to the Illinois Centre Mall.

Over the twenty-first century, the mall has had a number of shop closings, notably those of Macy's and JCPenney. The mall's surviving tenants are Ross Dress for Less, Ulta Beauty, Old Navy, Bed Bath & Beyond (closed), Illinicare Health, and SIH Medical Group. Namdar Realty Group is in charge of managing the University Mall.
