A partnership between Cape Girardeau-based Drury Development Corp. and St. Louis-based May Centers, Inc., creators of the Drury Hotel Chain, erected the mall in 1981. Original tenants included Hallmark Cards, Foot Locker, Kay-Bee Toys, Claire's, Zales Jewelry, GNC, Waldenbooks, and Lerner New York. It included Famous-Barr (later Macy's) and JCPenney as its flagship stores. As a third anchor, an 80,000 square foot (7,400 m2) Venture was added in 1984. In 1993, Westfield Group acquired the shopping center from CenterMark, and in 1998, it changed its name to Westfield Shoppingtown West Park.
