In the state of Michigan, there is a 46,179-acre (186.88 km 2) state park called Tahquamenon Falls. It is Michigan's second-largest state park. The majority of the park, which borders Lake Superior, is located in Whitefish Township in Chippewa County, with a small portion in McMillan Township in Luce County. Paradise is the nearest city of any size.

The Tahquamenon River flows through Tahquamenon Falls State Park before emptying into Whitefish Bay, Lake Superior. Tahquamenon Falls consists of the Upper Falls, a single plunge of 50 feet (15 meters), as well as cascades and rapids that together make up the Lower Falls. The Upper Falls, which are the second-largest vertical drop east of the Mississippi River after the Niagara Falls of Niagara, are drained by the river at a rate of up to 50,000 US gallons (190,000 L) per second during late spring runoff.
