Depending on the season in which we go, we can see whales as they pass near Cabrillo beach. As whale watching season ends, Grunion fish season begins. Twice a month, these silvery fish emerge from the water at Cabrillo Beach to lay their eggs in the sand under a full or new moon. During the season, it is legal to pick them up, but you have to do it with your hands, which is difficult as they are very slippery.
