Seonamsa Buddhist Temple, South Korea (with Map & Photos)

Seonamsa Temple is a buddhist temple in the west of the Chogyesan Mountains in Jeollanam-do. From the parking lot to the temple you need to walk about 1 km. If you walk along a mountain stream, you can see two rainbow-shaped bridges, the second of which is called Seungseongyo. This bridge is listed as the National Treasure number 400 and is considered the most beautiful stone bridge in Korea. This picturesque place is often used in the filming of TV series. Behind the Seungseongyo Bridge is the 2-story Gangseong Pavilion, and behind it is the small Samindang Pond. A picturesque corner of this place is an island in the center of the pond, on which a pine tree grows. Behind the pond, you can see the Iljumun gate, and behind it are various temple buildings.

All of them are built from boards of huge ancient trees and blend perfectly with the surrounding mountain nature. If you go up the mountain path, starting to the left of the Seonamsa Buddhist Temple, you can see the 17-meter Maebul Buddha statue standing on a rock, which cannot be ignored when talking about the Seonamsa Temple. The most beautiful time to visit the temple is considered to be spring, when everything around it turns green, bright flowers bloom, and autumn, when the foliage turns into their autumn colors.

"It's enough just to change clothes." These are the words of a Buddhist monk from Seonamsa Temple, which I heard when, after going around the courtyard, I stopped in front of the main temple building. Hearing this, I replied: "But I'm already married." To which the monk said: "I am also married, and the Buddha was also...". It was then that I remembered that Siddhartha, already married, gave up worldly life at the age of 29. And at the age of 35 he became enlightened - the Buddha. So all my words were a very pathetic excuse.
