Attractions

Moskenes is one of the most picturesque communes in Norway. The picturesque fishing villages of Hamnøy, Reine, Sørvogen, Moskenes, O, and Tind are set against an impressive backdrop of jagged peaks overlooking the Vestfjord.

Between the southwestern tip of the Lofoten Range and the offshore island of Mosken is the tidal current Moskstraumen, known internationally as Maelstrom ( Maelström ), which is feared by all sailors. The isolated northwestern shore of the island contains interesting Stone Age rock art. Mount Hermannsdalstinden with a height of 1029 m is the highest in the commune.

Flakstadøya and Moskenesøya islands in Norway

Flakstadøya and Moskenesøya, are surprisingly good. Highway E-10 follows a rocky coast lined with tunnels and bridges to the port of Moskenes, halfway between Bodø and the "bird" islands of Værøy and Röst to the south. After about 6 kilometers, the highway ends with one of the most charming villages on the islands called "O" with several old buildings crammed between gray-green mountains and rough seas.

One family owns nice fishing houses by the harbor, a neighboring hostel, a bar, and the only restaurant with delicious seafood. Local buses run along the E-10 highway from Leknes to "O" 1-2 times a day from the end of June to the end of August and less often the rest of the time. However, their schedule only sometimes coincides with the schedule of ships from Moskenes and back. Therefore, if you are heading from the Moskenes pier to "O", walk 6 kilometers on foot or take a taxi.
