Infinity Bridge, Stockton-on-Tees, UK (with Map & Photos)

The 230m Infinity Bridge, built in the English city of Stockton-on-Tees across the River Tees for walking and cycling, was officially opened on May 14, 2009. The construction of such an unusual structure took about eighteen months.

The bridge has not only an original shape - it is supported by two asymmetric arches made of steel, but also a special LED and halogen lighting. The arches of the bridge are equipped with white spotlights with elliptical optics. At night, with the help of them, the bridge is reflected on the water surface of the river in the form of an “infinity”. It was he who became the reason for the name of such an interesting building.

The visible part of the bridge and its reflection are separated by a blue line - this is the pedestrian zone of the structure, equipped with light elements built into the handrails. From such decorative elements, the light goes down and is reflected in the water with many lights. There is a feeling of unity of the entire space, located above the span of the bridge and under it.

One of the ideas underlying this structure is the play of light. The pedestrian zone of the bridge is illuminated by two hundred LED modules, which are carefully hidden in its railing. They consist of blue and white LEDs that light up depending on the position of the person walking on the bridge. When a pedestrian is moving, the module in front of him glows white. Modules that have already been completed imitate a train behind a person. This effect is achieved precisely through the use of special LED lighting elements and photocells.

All the lighting effects that we managed to realize when creating the Infinity Bridge are best observed when the river is completely calm and its waters are calm.

Unusual lighting of the bridge with LED lights, reflected in the water in the form of an “infinity” sign, is the result of the work of the most famous designers. The Infinity Bridge organically fits into the natural environment, without violating the ecological balance of the river.
