Côte de Granit Rose, Brittany, France (with Map & Photos)

Named for the pink color of the rocky coastline, this marvelous seaside route runs between Perros-Guirec and the port of Plumanasche. Côte de Granit Rose is famous for its incredible rock formations Rochers de Ploumanac'h. These impressive weather structures are located between the beaches of Trestrau and Saint-Guirec. Some of the formations reach 20 meters, and many seem to take the form of recognizable figures such as a witch, Napoleon's hat, and a rabbit. One of the highlights of this coastal area is Perros-Guirec, a popular seaside resort in Brittany (France) and a favorite among Breton families. Perros-Guirec has three sandy beaches with kids' clubs and sports opportunities in the summer.

Trebeurden is another seaside resort that attracts many beach lovers in the summer. The town of Plumanas also has a natural harbor, which is a great place to walk. Bird watchers will appreciate the Pink Granite Coast for its varied bird life. Brittany's largest bird sanctuary is located nearby in the Sainte-Ile (Seven Islands) archipelago. Regular boat trips run from Perros-Guirec and from nearby Port Blanc to Sep-Ile.

Three littorals in the world possess this characteristic of pink granite, which is the result of a mixture of three minerals, mica, feldspar and quartz: one in China, the other in Corsica, and the last in Brittany. This natural geological curiosity deserves more than just a visit, for the beauty of natural sites and vegetation, and for enjoying the charm of the wild and mysterious Brittany.
