Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, Colorado (with Map & Photos)

The surrounding Red Rocks Park, in Colorado (USA) originally known as the Garden of Angels, is home to geological wonders. The sandstone monoliths raised from the bottom of the prehistoric ocean show the history of the area's flora and fauna over the past 250 million years. They keep the footprints of dinosaurs, a giant 12-meter sea serpent, a plesiosaur, a mosasaur marine reptile and flying reptiles.

The Red Rocks Park area has attracted musical performers since before the turn of the century. In the early 1900s, John Brisbane Walker had the idea to bring artists here to perform on stage in an ideal acoustic environment. Between 1906 and 1910 Walker gave several concerts on a temporary platform and his dream began the history of Red Rocks as a musical center.

George Cranmer, manager of Denver Parks, convinced the city of Denver to buy the Red Cliffs from Walker and build the building on the foundations he had laid. The construction took over 12 years. Since then, the Red Rocks Amphitheatre has attracted the best performers to its stage - from Sting and The Beatles to opera stars and U2, each musician strives to perform on this unique stage.
