Bamboo Forest, Arashiyama, Japan (with Map & Photos)

The Bamboo Forest of Arashiyama is one of the most popular attractions in Kyoto and for good reason as they wander among the reeds bamboo extensive this forest is like being in another world. It is one of the most photographed sites in Kyoto along with the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) and the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine.

You can directly access the Bamboo Forest from the main street of the Arashiyama district, it is located a few meters north of the entrance to the Tenryuji Temple, it is advisable to visit both sites since you can directly access the Bamboo Forest from the north exit.

There is only one path through the Bamboo Forest, which takes you slowly up the hill. Once you get to the top of the hill you will see the entrance to Villa Okochi-Sanso.

From Arashiyama station, you will find the entrance to the Bamboo Forest by walking north for 3 minutes.
