Isla Incahuasi

Isla Incahuasi is a cactus island located in the middle of the dried endless salt lake Uyuni, Bolivia. This island is known as Isla del Pescado, which means the island of fish. The unusual island was formed from limestone rocks, fossilized corals and seashells and represents the summit of an ancient volcano. It is located at an altitude of 3656 meters, and the total area of ​​the Isla Incahuasi is almost 25 hectares.

Isla Incahuasi is part of an ancient 40 thousand year old salt lake. It is famous for the fact that incredibly beautiful cacti grow here, reaching ten or more meters in height. The largest cactus - Milenario, which means a thousand years old, grew for over 1200 years and reached 12 meters in height. However, in 2007, the millennial cactus suddenly fell.

Cacti such as Trichocereus and Pillowavi grow here, which are excellent woody material, but cutting them on the island is strictly prohibited, since the Isla Incahuasi is a nature reserve.
