Dubrovnik is located on the picturesque Adriatic coast of southern Croatia, on the so-called Dalmatian Riviera, at the foot of Mount Srd, 412 meters high. The population of Dubrovnik is a little less than 50,000 people. The national currency is the Croatian Kuna (NRK).

Dubrovnik was founded in the first half of the 7th century by combining Ragusa, a camp of refugees from Epidaurus, who were looking for salvation in the valley from the Avar-Slavic invasion and earthquakes that shook the region, and the Croatian settlement of Dubrava. The channel that separated the city buildings was subsequently drained and transformed into the central street of Dubrovnik - Stradun.
