The majestic palace and park ensemble is a real work of art, and each of its components is the result of the painstaking work of several architects. They have been working on the harmonious appearance of the estate for almost a century. The lands on the outskirts of Woodstock are a royal gift to John Churchill for defeating the French at the Battle of Blenheim. In 1724, a grandiose palace with a Victory Column and a triumphal arch was built here. In the middle of the century, the area around the building changed beyond recognition: Lancelot Brown created a miracle of landscape design - a magnificent landscape park. The old estate is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough.

The descendants of the ancient family live in Blenheim Palace to this day: the eastern wing of the building is occupied by the family of the 12th Duke of Marlborough.

What to see

Blenheim is a rare example of Baroque in England. The monumental structure is decorated with a massive entrance portico and galleries with columns. Numerous details are a tribute to military victories. Figured towers, stone lions and the decoration of palace interiors: a marble hall with a huge medallion, gilded state rooms, a collection of family portraits, tapestries and furniture. The room is open for visits, in which the most famous representative of the Marlborough dynasty, Winston Churchill, was born.

From February to September, you can even visit the private apartments where the family of the Duke of Marlborough lives, guest bedrooms and servants' rooms.

The famous English gardens bloom around the palace - "Water Terraces" and "Rose Garden". And in the Churchill memorial garden there is a pavilion "Temple of Diana", where the famous politician proposed to his future wife. No less interesting is the park with a large lake, cascades, fountains, a giant labyrinth and a butterfly pavilion.
